WINDOWS 2008 DNS I have discovered an issue with Windows Server 2008 R2 that when you install the DNS role, root hints will not work until you make a change. I found the following blog which discussed the issue. weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/2009/09/15/windows-server-2008-r2-dns-issues.aspxBasically, if you setup a brand new Windows 2008 DNS server, you can¡¦t get external name resolution (stupid huh!). Only after running the following command (with elevated command prompt of course) will root hints work. dnscmd /config /EnableEDNSProbes 0 I thought this was important enough to send to everyone in the event they have to setup a DNS server.
